YOU, not your body, should decide what you will eat. I don't believe
for one minute that the body indicates with any reliability what it
needs. Cravings are often preferences or lusts that have nothing to
do with a need for a particular nutrient or type of food. If I were
to be fooled into believeing that my desires were true revelations of
my body's nutritional needs, then cake, chocolate, ice cream, and pizza
must be some of the most nutritious foods around. In fact, although
I like vegetables (especially when my tastebuds haven't been corrupted
by refined, processed, over-sweet, over-salty foods), there are so many
junky foods I would rather eat that days might go by without me eating
a single vegetable. Fruits are also appealing to me, but if I were able
to truly choose between a banana and a maple bar any time I wanted without
any unwanted ramifications, the maple bar would nearly always win.
God gave us brains for a reason, folks!
Desires can be somewhat determined by choices. The more I consistenly
choose to eat natural, whole foods, the more I like these foods, look
forward to eating these foods, think about these foods, and enjoy eating
them. Similarly, if I allow myself to eat the SAD with all its refined,
processed junk food, then my preferences, thoughts, desires--well, they
all decidedly shift toward that mess.
Choose for yourself this day whom you will serve, whether it
will be the "stomach god" or wisdom.
