Synopsis: Prostate trouble is a fact of life for most men in middle age. Now, Dr. Earl Mindell, author of the bestselling Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible and Food as Medicine, provides a collection of easy-to-understand, non-evasive ways to deal with the situation.
Customer Review (rating=*****): "The sub-title for this book is "Herb Care for Men & Boys" but the book does far more than this. Its is an excellent source of information about specific ailments afflicting men and what can be done about them. His style of writing is most enjoyable as the topics, herbal suggestions with recipes, and use of technical herbal terminology is presented in a real home-style fashion. Reading it made me think of an old friend who was giving good natured advice to me. There are sections on how to pick the right herb, how to prepare the herbs (infusion, decoction, etc), on Wholistic way of life vs Allopathic MD treatments, a pictoral glossary of the herbs, informative glossary, and wonderful folklore & herbal recipes for most every male complaint."
Synopsis: What determines a man's virility? Is a lack of sexual drive and function a normal part of aging? What is "normal" sexual function? The answers to these and many other questions regarding male sexuality can be found in this enlightening book by the author of Menopause: Getting Well Naturally.
Customer Comment (rating=*****): Readers of this book will literally run to their physicians for prescriptions of natural testosterone not only for enhancing sexual vitality but also as a valuable adjunct for the treatment of cardiovascular disease and other conditions. They will likewise become informed as to the dangers of synthetic testosterone and other hormones.
Synopsis: Nearly two million men turn 50 every year. The natural hormone testosterone promises to be a fountain of youth for them, as well as every other aging man. It can revitalize virility, slow the aging process, and even help counter impotence. However, as with estrogen hormone therapy for women, significant medical and ethical questions remain. Dr. Aubrey Hill gives the general reader a balanced, professional exploration of the issues here.
Customer Review (rating=*****): "Tiredness, lack of motivation, blaming work, stress, not enough time out disappears out the window after you read this book. A simple workable solution to the problems of the aging man and woman. A wonderful solution to the decline of one's sex life as well!"
Synopsis: While many of the 43 million women in the U.S.currently experiencing menopause are opting for estrogen replacement therapy, there is an increasing interest in a more "natural" approach. Dr. Murray answers the most commonly-asked questions about menopause and details an effective natural approach for its treatment.
Customer Review (rating=*****): "This wonderful book gives easy-to-follow directions for creating absolutely adorable critters ... and great memories ... using natural materials like pods, pinecones, and nutshells. The book also includes a monthly gathering calendar which makes it easy to take a quality time, family collecting hike. Synopsis: The Country Store is a treasury of creative ideas with timeless appeal--crafts, recipes and decorations that capture the spirit of a simpler time. The four sections draw inspiration from natural ingredients in simple recipes, beauty products, natural decorations for the home and special projecs to mark the changing seasons. Step-by-step sequences illustrate the projects and recipes, and over 300 color photos evoke the true essence of traditional country living.
Review: "This book is beautifully presented with fabulous photographs. It is broken up into three sections: Gifts for the gardener, Gifts for the Garden, and Natural Garden Gifts."
From the Author: "When people ask me what, The Natural House is about, I say 'It's about creating sustainable shelter. That is, it's about creating a dream home that is healthy, kind to Mother Earth, nourishing to the soul, and easy on the pocket book-not an environmental and economic nightmare.'"
Synopsis: Store-bought decorations rarely have the charm and vibrancy of natural ones--how can plastic compete with the lush bounty of the garden? Rather than spending loads of money on mass-produced items, take a look around the backyard, the kitchen, and the store room for evergreen foliage, mosses, pinecones, vines, twigs, flowers, fruits, nuts, spices, and various containers like flowerpots, buckets, vases, baskets. (Of course, you can visit the craft or garden shop for any of these supplies too.) Add some metallic spray paints, ribbons, raffia, and candles, and you're ready to create the two dozen or so projects presented here (along with many variations): garlands, wreaths, centerpieces, chair swags, and more.
Customer Review (rating=*****): "Anyone owning or planning to own a small farm will find this handbook an invaluable guide to both the real potential and the harsh realities in making a full or part-time living on the land - buying land, growing and marketing your crops. Concise how-to."
Customer Comment (rating =*****): A must read for those who care about their health
As usual, Annemarie Colbin's voice of reason brings hope to a field of health awareness where hype and misinformation dominate. This book is fascinating and, like her other books, forces one to THINK about the things we put into our bodies every day. The approach she proposes is unconventional to most Americans but please don't dismiss it. Remember, osteoporosis is thriving in the countries (like ours) where dairy products are freely consumed by the majority. Give this book a read and you won't be sorry.
Synopsis: A comprehensive self-help guide to easing and treating both chronic and short-term pain, written by the foremost authority on naturopathic healing and author of several health books. For readers who want to gain control of their bodies and their lives through naturopathic healing.
Customer Comment (rating=*****): A wise man once said that the doctor of the future will prescribe foods to eat in order to maintain optimal health. Well, the future is here now with Dr. Barnard's book. Extremely well-researched, it contains the latest findings on the relationship between pain, disease and what we eat. If you have back pain, headaches, endometriosis, cancer or any of the many disorders and diseases common today, read this book and you will probably get the relief you seek. Every doctor -- and every patient -- should have a copy of this fascinating, superb, life-saving book.
Midwest Book Review: This takes a different tack than most gardening guides, inviting gardeners to make their own pesticides and repellents using natural ingredients on hand; from ammonia to beer. Keep gophers and skunks away from the property, identify and eliminate harmful insects without the use of poison, and use companion planting, beneficial organisms, and other choices to promote natural pest control for home and garden.
Synopsis: Dog owners are told what they need to know about canine physiology, including symptoms, treatments, first-aid, medications, ticks, fleas, other parasites, diet and nutrition and much more. In addition to tables and charts throughout the book, there are more than 20 full-color photos, line drawings, and an extensive medical glossary.
Customer Review (rating=*****): "Childbirth books usually come in one of two forms-those that advocate an "institutional birth" and those that advocate a 100% natural birth. This book fits nicely between the two. It gives good, practical information on the pros and cons and nearly every procedure you can think of while neither judging nor condemning the use of such procedures. The best thing about it, however, is explaining to the birth partner how to help and support the birthing woman in the manner that she wishes. A must read for every person who intends to be a support person for a birthing woman."
Synopsis: Over 40 years ago, this pioneering doctor introduced his philosophy of childbirth education--now known as natural childbirth. His modern classic, which has sold more than 200,000 copies in hardcover and trade paperback editions, has been revised and expanded for its mass market edition.
Customer Review (rating=*****): "This book was one of my tried-and-true resources during my pregnancy while I was thoughtfully trying to decide what birth experience I wanted. I ended up making an informed decision to have a midwife-assisted natural homebirth, and it was the most exhilarating experience of my life. There is no other way I would want to bring a child into this world. I challenge any mother-to-be to think for herself, inform herself of all the options, and make the choice SHE (not just her OB/GYN) feels is right. Thank God a medically-controlled hospital birth is not the only option. Blessed are the babies who receive such a warm welcome into the world. And, my heart breaks for every innocent little soul who is yanked from his mother's womb by a pair of cold, latex-gloved hands in a cold, bright, sterilized hospital. Trust me, women...there IS a better way! You have all the resources and strength within you to have exactly the kind of birth you want."
Synopsis: For half a century, the all-natural Bradley method has helped mothers have healthy babies and joyful birthing experiences--and made fathers partners in the miracle of life. Today more than 1,000 teachers in every state recommend this pioneering guide--now available in a trade paperback edition.
Customer Review (rating=*****): "How should Christians view childbirth? Is "natural childbirth" some fad started by hippies and humanists? Should Christians use midwives? These were questions that were being batted around by a group of us fairly new mothers back when I was pregnant with my second baby. I wish I'd had this book then. It presents a Biblical view of childbirth...a view that tells us that childbirth can indeed be joyful. Is this pie-in-the-sky stuff only for "earth mothers" or women who delight in "toughing it out" or being martyr-like during labor? Not at all! I have had the sort of joyful birth that this book describes and teaches. If you want to be inspired and taught on a practical level about childbirth and its significance for Christian families, this is a must read."
Synopsis: A doula is an experienced labor companion who provides continuous emotional support and assistance before, during, and after birth. Through research with over 2,000 women, the authors show that the presence of a doula shortens labor by an average of two hours, decreases cesarean sections by over 50%, decreases the need for pain medication, helps fathers participate, and more.
Customer Review (rating=*****): "Romm believes that pregnancy and birth are natural parts of life, not illnesses to be dealt with medically. When common concerns do arise, she offers suggestions for dealing with the emotional and physical aspects of the concerns, through healthy thinking, healthy eating, and herbal remedies that are safe for pregnancy. She encourages a proactive approach toward excellent living, rather than a pill or shot that will temporarily relieve symptoms."
Customer Reviews (rating=*****): "As a result of reading this book and growing in faith, the birth of my third child was totally pain free! It was my fastest labor yet (5 hours total from the first twinge) and all my contractions just felt like cramps. I refer to this as 'God's epideral.'" AND "Having had two miscarriages and only 24 years of age, this book gave me the strength to trust God's word and move on. The scriptures provided in the book revealed God's promises for childbirth. The book allows spiritual growth and an intimate relationship with God concerning his promises of being fruitful and multiplying. This book changed my life and because of it, I can walk in God's healing, knowing, without a doubt, that I will have healthy children. Thank you Jesus!" AND "My husband and I have been trying to concieve for 3 and a half years, had been through all of the fertility treatments, tried artificial insemination and the doctors all but told us that we would NOT be able to have children unless we did In Vitro fertilization. When I got the book, it was so good I couldn't put it down...The most wonderful news is that in February of this year, my husband and I both decided to stop all of the fertility treatments and give it to God. Here it is July and I AM PREGNANT!"
Customer Review (rating=*****): "This book is a definite must-read for any woman that is thinking of conceiving a child or who is already pregnant. This book is not "on the fringe", despite its slightly shocking title. ;) It is a book for all women (and the men who love them) about how to go about getting a birth that is satisfying for the couple, as well as ensuring the most safety for mother and baby. It is a real book that tells the truth about what you're really gaining, and missing, when you leave the OB and the midwife knocking at your door."
Customer Review (rating=*****): "I had heard of and was considering a water birth for my first pregnancy. After reading Napierala's book I wonder why waterbirths are not everyone's choice. Now it seems a "no brainer." She gives wonderful detail on options, methods and benefits of waterbirths. She paints the picture of waterbirth as spiritual and gentle; the way a birth should be. Also included are moving birth stories. Plus a "how to build a tank" chapter for midwives. Excellent resource to show skeptical grandparents as well!"
