Kathy Smith
Power Step Workout
"This tape is very challenging without being overly choreographed. The power moves multiply the sweat factor exponentially and work your legs much more than a typical step workout would. The steps are really easy to learn with great arm and leg movements. Once I mastered the heart-pumping exercises I added 1lb. weights and have noticed more definition in my legs, butt and arms. A must if you want to max out your step workout."

BOOK STORE INDEX
Customer Review (rating=*****): "It was wonderful. It incorporated excellent stretches, a wonderful upbeat workout, toning exercises, and stress relieving yoga. I felt great afterwards. This is an excellent video if you are looking for something that has it all."
Customer Review (rating=****): "This 42 minute video begins with a brief introduction which follows with 2 pilates toning sessions. The first one is 22 minutes long and features some of the well know Pilates stretches as THE HUNDRED and LEG CURLS, etc. The second session is tough with pilates/yoga based toning..you will feel it!"
Synopsis: TrimWalk Indoor can be done in just 6 feet of space. Burns more excess body fat than an outdoor walk. TrimWalk Indoor gets your body moving in a variety of ways and not just one direction. It works all of the body's major muscle groups. TrimWalk Indoor is a complete workout. It consists of a thirty minute aerobic segment paced at a 15 to 16 minutes per mile speed. It includes a 15 minute toning and strengthening segment.
Synopsis: These Crunch Tae Boxing Workouts, Kickology and Tae Boxing Jam, will tone up your whole body--butt, thighs, abs, everything! Plus, you'll burn mega calories and lose weight, all while practicing techniques that can be used in self-defense.
Synopsis: While this program says it's geared for the "mature" crowd (which apparently in youth-oriented Los Angeles means those over 40), the easier pace and gentler moves make it appropriate for anyone who doesn't have the stamina for Blanks's other Tae-Bo tapes. There's less hopping from foot to foot and the moves are simpler. And for a refreshing change of pace, the workout class is populated with some folks who are elderly and some who aren't in the peak condition of the exercisers in the other Tae-Bo videos. But don't let these things make you think you aren't going to get a real workout, because the mixture of boxing punches and martial arts kicks will get the heart rate pumping.
Customer Review (rating=*****): "It might take you awhile to work up to the advanced video - but once you get there you won't want to stop. You have to do this video in steps but once you are able to complete the whole thing you will get one of the best workouts ever released on video. You'll sweat, burn and yes sometimes even let out a yell ! But you will know that you made good use of your workout time and you will feel stronger and more fit. Billy Blanks is great!"
Synopsis: A mixture of boxing punches and martial arts kicks, Tae-Bo is fun and easy. Includes Tae-Bo: Instructional, Tae-Bo: Basics, Tae-Bo: Advanced, and 8-Minute Workout.
Customer Comment (rating+*****): These tapes are exhilarating! I am a reformed couch potato! Talk about someone hating to exercise. That was me before I tried Tae-Bo. Now, I can't wait to exercise! These tapes have changed my life!
Customer Review (rating=*****): "The video has three segments, each ten minutes, each different. It makes it more fun to do many times since you can do a different segment every day."
Synopsis: This 30-minute workout starts with a 4-minute rhythmic warm-up, such as one you'd do for an aerobic dance class. You may wonder why you're warming up your arms and legs for an abdominal workout. Surprise--this workout targets the abs, but it uses the arms and legs to do so. This remarkably creative and varied workout has 2 minutes of interesting standing ab work, then 20 minutes on the mat.
Customer Review (rating=*****): "Easy to follow workout. The exercises really target the areas that need work after pregnancy. I've only used it three times and already I see results, especially in the abs."
Customer Review (rating=****): "I just recently purchased this one and have really enjoyed working out to it. I look forward to the "jazzier" aerobic segments and portions of the toning (Leisa's floor work in particular). This is a good one to get for a good fat-burning, energizing work out."
Synopsis: Join Greg Smithey as he incorporates more toning with less aerobics while being lead through a fun workout emphasizing the firming and shaping of the hips, thighs, and glutials.
Customer Review (rating=****): "This is one of the most challenging videos I own, despite the fact that I've been using it for years. Tamilee Webb provides 40 min. of a highly cardiovascular workout that also works the buns."
Customer Review (rating=*****): "I am not a fan of exercise but this is the one tape I keep going back to. I love it! It's great for those of us who aren't exactly coordinated, too. The routine is easy to pick up, the pace is just right for the newbie and best of all, you see the results quickly!! I've worn my tape out and am here buying a new one!!"
Synopsis: Designed for beginning to intermediate practitioners, this 40-minute workout moves through vigorous stretching, strengthening, and balancing postures, culminating in a short relaxation session. Yoga teacher Michi Broman and two assistants demonstrate beginning and advanced variations for each pose during the practice, making this tape appropriate for a wide audience.
Customer Review (rating=*****): "Outstanding. The various steps are demonstrated in slow pace, while the camera focus directly on each movement as it is verbally explained. One easy video for beginners to learn basic steps throughly and then go on to more advanced stages of Tai Chi."
Customer Review (rating=****): "Once you learn it, it's great! It took me a little while to really learn the moves, and the way it's shot doesn't help (a lot of times you're looking at the instructor's face while her legs are doing something complicated) but once I did learn it, I loved it. I've been using it regularly for almost two years, and I think it's because it WASN'T really easy that I haven't gotten tired of it."
Customer Review (rating=*****): "This step aroebic workout is ideal for beginners or advanced level steppers. The steps are performed by three different fittness experts and each brings a certain style to the workout to give you maximum results. The toning portion of the video is intense and works absolute wonders."
Customer Review (rating=*****): "I've been using this ab video for about six years now. I havent found a better one to this date. Very practical down to earth. Great routines. No flashy models with fake smiles. It works!"
Customer Review (rating=*****): "This is a "must have" for anyone who is serious about learning to train the abdominal area properly. Scott Cole is a master trainer and he thoroughly explains and demonstrates every movement. The video is divided into a beginner-intermediate workout and an advanced workout so it is safe for beginners, but challenging enough for advanced exercisers."
Customer Review (rating=*****): "Provides several easy to follow segments which created a wonderful balance of movement, stretching, and mental relaxation. The instructor and assistants spoke and demonstrated the directions of the movements very clearly. Several level of difficulties were simultaneously performed to allow the participant to follow along at a comfortable pace." NN NOTE: Contains mention of New Age philosphical jargon.
Customer Review (rating=*****): "This is a fantastic lower body video. It's broken down into 3 15 minute segments. Part 1 is all standing squats, plies, and lunges. This will burn your legs! Part 2 is interesting floor work with some different moves that really work your buttocks. Part 3 uses a step. Not only will you work your buns you will also work your thighs too. Great video, I recommend it. It is one of the better lower body videos I have done."
Synopsis: You will need two sets of weights for this workout--one set under three pounds and one set three pounds or heavier.
Synopsis: Three aerobic segments are lively and fun, and instructor Lori Dean's quick steps will get your heart rate up. Her steps may be slightly too quick for beginners, but a few times through this tape may overcome this problem.
Synopsis: This intermediate-to-advanced video from the trendy gym Crunch will work all your muscles, including your heart. The intense half-hour workout is divided into seven-and-a-half-minute segments. Hitzman is a fine, innovative instructor, cueing clearly with plenty of instruction for doing the moves correctly. If you think you've done it all, Boot Camp will make a man or woman of you!
Synopsis: Crunch's Brand New Butt is a 30-minute video designed to tone and firm your bottom. The workout is deceptively easy-looking, yet quite challenging when you actually begin to lift and squat along with the class. The beginning exercises, which warm up your legs, are followed by four sections of lower body movements--two sets standing, two sets on the floor--and the tape closes, of course, with a cool-down. Two- to five-pound weights are necessary, as is a chair or step top for balance (although the more advanced may choose to skip it).
Synopsis: Crunch: Fat Blaster is a sweat-filled, fat-burning workout with a variety of fun moves. Instructor Jennifer Mills breaks down the moves into simple components and gradually adds on complexity, cueing the changes clearly. She repeats the moves enough that intermediate-level exercisers with a fair amount of coordination can get them without frustration. There are many "traveling" steps, so it's best if you have enough space to travel both front and back as well as side to side on the floor.
Synopsis: "The key to changing your body and burning lots of calories is to work at a variety of intensities," explains instructor Tracy York. Her varied, high-energy choreography includes "power bursts"--high-intensity intervals--interspersed with moderate- intensity moves. The workout is mostly low-impact, but that does not mean low-energy--your heart will be pumping. There are occasional brief jogging and jumping steps, with low-impact alternatives always demonstrated.
Customer Comment (rating=****): "It's not my first introduction to yoga, but I think it is good for beginners and intermediates. It also shows modifications for people with less flexibility (or for a less demanding session)....takes some of the "mystery" out of yoga and treats it as stretching with breathing."
Synopsis: This is not the old, familiar, floor-work video with interminable leg lifts. Instead, you get a creative assortment of favorite lower-body exercises from athletes, dancers, and trainers, mostly done while standing and moving. The half-hour workout is divided into four sections, each with a different focus.
Synopsis: His instruction is masterful: he cues ahead of each move, so that you hear the instructions in time to perform the steps successfully. He breaks down the moves into their simplest components first, teaching one part at a time--sometimes slow-motion, sometimes arms and footwork separately--so that you get them. Then he builds the moves into patterns complex enough to make your mind (as well as your body) spin. The steps are low-impact at first, getting progressively higher-impact as the workout progresses. (One participant shows low- impact modifications throughout.) The moves also get more complicated, with more intricate footwork and fancier arm movements. If you're a coordinated intermediate-advanced aerobic-dance fan, you'll really enjoy this 57-minute workout. The energy is high from start to finish, and the pace is intense--you'll be drenched in sweat.
Synopsis: Don't be put off by the Master Class in the title: This is a challenging workout, however, and it is a well-rounded one that you can perform at your own pace. It's great fun, too. The 57-minute workout has three sections (plus, of course, warm-up and cool down): lower body, upper body, and abs. A set of weights is necessary for the upper-body workout.
Synopsis: These Crunch Tae Boxing Workouts, Kickology and Tae Boxing Jam, will tone up your whole body--butt, thighs, abs, everything! Plus, you'll burn mega calories and lose weight, all while practicing techniques that can be used in self-defense.
Synopsis: You'll have worked up a sweat after just the first segment, which involves standing and using weights. In the second segment you lie down to work with the weights, and the final section concentrates on your abs. Note that the exercises are a bit difficult, so this may not be the best place to start for a beginner.
Synopsis: Beginning with a short warm-up, the video launches into three six-minute abdominal workouts, each slightly more challenging than the one before. The first portion is quite basic and can probably be handled by any beginner, while the final workout requires a bit more stamina and stomach muscles. Some particularly nice things about this program: no extra equipment is necessary (although you may want a towel or mat to stretch out on), and you can use either the entire tape in one workout or just one of the six-minute programs, working your way up slowly.
Customer Review (rating=*****): I have been working out with "Firm Cardi" for three months now, and have seen great results. They aren't kidding when they say "visible results in 10 workouts" . I use this video along with "Firm Strength". The instructor is great and very motivating.
Customer Review (rating=*****): Pam Cauthen is an able instructor/leader and the pushups, squats, tall box routines, barbell lifts, and aerobic portions using light weights are combined to give you a maximum full body workout. The abdominal section, though relatively light, is challenging. The cooldown is thorough and serves to relax the muscles used in the workout.
Customer Comment (rating=*****): Perfect for Beginner Weight Trainers!!!! If you're past the beginner stage but not yet at intermediate, this tape is great. I've been a fan of The Firm tapes from day 1! You will notice results in 10 workouts!
Customer Review (rating=*****): "This video is entirely cardio work, about 30-40 min of it, plus short warmup and cooldown sections. I would say that this is good for those like me who aren't great at doing complicated footwork, but want to get aerobic effects. You will need a short aerobic step for some of the workouts on this tape. This tape was compiled from original Firm videos and each segments is introduced by "your personal fitness trainer." This is a great video for cardio fitness. I would say some of the workouts were higher impact than others, so beware if you are bothered by jumps."
Customer Review (rating=****): "Tough tape 2 does a better job of balancing out both upper and lower body. It is suitable for intermediate to advanced exercisers--just use a heavier weight if you are more advanced! This tape is for strength training, NOT cardio training, so if it doesn't raise your heart rate much, then that's OK--your cardio training is for another day! Unlike the Firm Classics which combine both aerobics and weights in one workout, this tape is meant to focus on strength only."
Customer Review (rating=*****): "I love this workout from The Firm. I like the floor work, and the standing leg work...liked the use of jumps and squats. Like most Firm tapes, there is an endless amount of equipment, but I have learned to make use of the equipment I have. Better Body and Buns is an excellent Total Body Workout with three great instructors.
Customer Review (rating=*****): "This is probably the best exercise video I have experienced to date. Gilad is great. He involves both the upper and lower bodies which helps burn more and more fat."
Customer Review (rating=*****): This is a tremendous exercise video for beginners to advanced. Gilad challenges and encourages throughout the session motivating you to literally become part of the team right down to the counting. He shows you proper form during all aspects of the various exercises reminding you to stay positioned correctly. This exercise video targets those areas we seem to neglect the most, but want to look the best. The warm-up and cool-down are fantastic and essential in proper training. If your serious about exercise and toning your body, this video is a must for every library.
Customer Review (rating=*****): Individuals just starting out with an exercise program will find this video challenging, but not overwhelming. Gilad's first beginners' video lasts only 30 minutes. This one is 55 minutes long--a little more than I expected--but it is well worth it. I can tell I've worked out, but don't feel overwhelmed, over sore, and over tired at the end of the tape. A very good buy!
Customer Comment (rating=*****): The BEST exercise video on the market! Susan Powter makes exercise possible for anyone, regardless of age, weight, or physical considerations. This video simply proves it. If you are used to videos that have loud music, and dance styled choreography, then this one isn't for you. If you are fat, fit or some where in between this can be modified to help you get the body you always wanted. Susan doesn't intimidate you, or lose you with high-speed moves. She teaches you, while keeping your attention, and helping you ultimately change your life. BUY IT! You won't regret it.
Customer Comment (rating=*****): This video is incredible. I know, I know. But I started out in January 85 lbs. HEAVIER than I am now! And the only thing I've done (as far as exercise goes) is Susan's Lean, Strong & Healthy. The steps are no-nonsense. You don't have to be a ballerina, a disco queen, or anything else to master the steps. I started out BELOW the most rudimentary level. Now I am intermediate to advanced, and I am still able to use this video. Susan explains things concisely, she "queues" very well, and again, you don't have to be very coordinated to do this routine. I use this as my benchmark now. TRY IT! It's AWEsome!
Synopsis: "A little cha cha, a little salsa, a little mambo," promises instructor Petra Kolber. If you love dance choreography and you love step workouts, this combination gives you both. Cha cha, Charleston, and pony your way up, down, and over the step for 20 minutes of cardio with attitude. Kolber cues superbly and progresses quickly from slightly complex to very complex, adding segments to a rapidly growing pattern. You need to be an experienced stepper for this workout--the instructor presumes that you know what "over the top," "corner to corner," and other typical step terminology mean. You also need to be a choreography enthusiast--Kolber packs a lot of multistep choreography into half an hour.
Customer Review (rating=*****): "I've been working out with videos for years, and Gin Miller provides the best workout by far! Her cuing is flawless, her energy contagious, her patterns on the step are interesting, and her interval toning is very challenging. This is one tough and innovative tape. You will definitely sweat buckets, but have fun doing it."
Customer Review (rating=*****): "My hobby growing up was tap and jazz dancing, so I find most step videos too easy, too slow paced, and just generally boring. This video makes you feel like you're doing a dance routine. The steps are not easy, but the instructor does a great job of breaking them down and teaching them. The video is 50 minutes long so you're sure to get a great workout, and have fun at the same time."
Customer Review (rating=*****): "Donna Richardson is one of the greatest instructors out there. Her videos are motivating and fun! This starts out with 20 minutes of aerobics and then goes on to weights with the arms and the she works the abs. It's a great video for an beginner or intermediate exerciser."
Donna's Comment: "You can have thinner, firmer hips and thighs in just 30 days! I've made it achievable by combining, the same workout, calorie-burning aerobics with the most effective toning exercises I know. Together they'll boost metabolism, increase muscle tone and endurance AND shape your legs!"
Synopsis: You get three different workouts in this video. Each is 20 exercise-packed minutes long, so if you're short on time, do just one of them. They all come complete with warm-up, workout, and cool-down, but are very different.
Customer Review (rating=****): "This video starts with a martial arts warm up, then there are 3 levels of funky aerobics that get you pumping and dancing."
Customer Comment (rating=*****): This is a fabulous aerobic workout!
If you like dancy floor aerobics, this workout is for you! Donna Richardson is the best! Her cueing is right on the money. The routines are easy to catch on to, but are tons of fun! Donna's enthusiasm is contagious! And before you know it, you've rock-n-rolled to a great workout!
Customer Review (rating=****): "I have this video and love to exercise with it. If you have a great deal of weight to lose, and are tired of looking at all the perfect hard bodies out there, this video lets you exercise with others who you can relate to. I think that Richard Simmons tries to seek out those who don't have the perfect "10" body. His enthusiasm rubs off on you. However, you have to stick with it a few days so that you can catch on to the moves. I love the end of the video where it shows the amounts of weight that the people exercising on the video have lost. It really gives you hope."
Synopsis: In this workout, formerly titled Sweatin' to the Oldies 4, Richard Simmons leads another spirited and playful dance party. He and his group of wildly happy followers dance energetically to songs like "Shout," "Dance to the Music," "Heat Wave," "Proud Mary," "Devil with a Blue Dress," and "Mony Mony." His group of exercisers is smaller this time, but the band is larger, sometimes including gospel singers.
Customer Review (rating=*****): "This is my most favorite tape. I exercise to this tape at least five days a week and never get bored. I have lost 55 pounds using this tape and walking. I highly recommend this tape if you are overweight, you can follow the exercises at your pace and then add intensity as you go. A great tape for the beginner!"
Customer Review (rating=*****): "This is a really fun toning video. It has great music, fun sets and is really motivating. It is divided into two sections. Tonin' Uptown is an upper body workout and Tonin' Downtown is lower body and abs. Each section is about half an hour with its own warm up and cool down so you can just do half if that's all you have time for. This is a good video for a beginner or intermediate exerciser."
Customer Comment (rating: "4.5 stars"): I have used numerous excercise videos and this is the only video that has been continuously fun and worthwhile. It works for all levels of fitness and it will keep you firming up forever. This video rocks!
Synopsis: Veteran aerobics instructor Kathy Smith jumps aboard the Tae-Bo bandwagon with her punchy video Kickboxing Workout and adds her own brand of California-girl pep to the popular martial-arts routine.
Customer Comment (rating=*****): The live music, enthusiastic dancers, and Kathy Smith's motivating professionalism are a plus. Though I've found the more I do it the more likely I am to hit my aerobic zone, I think it's also important to get the word out that there's more to working out than just working up a sweat: I pop this tape in when I need to shake off the work day, get in tune with my body, and remember indoor exercise doesn't have to be drudgery.
Customer Comment (rating=****): Great workout! I highly recommend Kathy Smith's power step workout for people who are serious about working out. It is the best workout I've ever gotten using a VCR tape.
In this video, Kathy combines aerobic exercise with free weight training in a comprehensive 12-week exercise program designed to tone and shape muscles and improve cardiovascular fitness.
Customer Review (rating=*****): "Fantastic video. You can work with a bench or without. Karen explains how to keep it easy or how to pump it up a little bit. I've used this video for 4 years and still love doing it."
